ENTRY #10. The Finish Line

Image
Hi everyone! I hope you all are doing well and surviving the end of the semester. For my last blog post, I'd like to wish you all luck. I'd also like to stress the importance of taking care of yourself. I know that for me I can get very stressed, and my depression worsens when things come to a close. It is hard preparing for finals and final projects. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to drown in work and assignments. One thing that I've had to learn is that school is not more important than some things. For example, if you are struggling mentally, please take time to take care of yourself. Mental well-being is far more important than a 20-point assignment.  I also want to emphasize the importance of asking for help. Don't be afraid to talk to your family, friends, and teachers about what is going on. They are supposed to be there to support you. Asking for help is better than toughing it alone. I recently had 2 major incidents happen that took up a lot of my time. I

ENTRY #9. Topics in Food Quest

Image
Welcome back to my blog! Today I wanted to discuss the comic below. You may have heard the saying "You are what you eat." Although we may not turn into a sandwich when we eat one, we still have to be mindful of what we eat. Eating a lot of fat or sugar means that your body will absorb that fat and sugar. So, if you only eat fast food your body will be filled with what fast food is made of.  It is important that we cut down on eating so much fast food and unhealthy junk. We will not only have more energy, but we will also feel better. If we eat healthy food, we will be healthy. If we eat unhealthy food all the time, we will be unhealthy and be exposed to a variety of health issues. Negative eating doesn't just involve weight gain, but it also can negatively affect mood, fatigue, and weakness. It also affects brain function. If you want to think clearly and feel better, it involves eating better. Eating fast food can lead to obesity, heart problems, high blood pressure, et

ENTRY #8. Work Environments

Image
Recently I made the decision to change jobs. It was really hard, but I feel so much happier. In this blog post, I just want to share a little bit about each of my work environments and hopefully highlight some workplace necessities that make jobs bearable. The job that I just barely quit was at an arts and crafts store. Within our store, we had multiple departments. These departments include crafts, art, floral, fabric, home, etc. When I was hired, I was given the job description of a cashier, but eventually, I worked as a cashier and ran the crafts department part-time. I hated cashiering because I felt like I was standing around all day, and I felt my knowledge of the store and how it was run wasn't being used. Being in the crafts department was awesome because I got to do something I was good at and feel important.  I enjoyed my role as a cashier/crafts department employee, except for my manager. My manager hated that me and my coworkers in the crafts department got along, and e

ENTRY #7. FRESH

Image
The movie fresh brings to light the many problems within the food industry. Specifically, mass production companies. Huge companies have issues keeping crops and animals healthy. Local farmers and producers have less of a problem with crops and animals. The purpose of this movie is to encourage the audience to buy from local farmers rather than mass producers. I have never taken time to sit and think deeply about the food I eat. As an audience member, it persuaded me to think more about the food I'm eating. I need to be careful of where my food is coming from. It also encourages me to do more research into the food companies I regularly buy from. I found it very upsetting to find out how terribly animals were being treated. Animals were held in close quarters, which led to a lot of diseases. Instead of decreasing animal amounts, producers would give animals shots. I was happy to see local farming in the documentary. It showed good examples of places we should be buying food from. P

ENTRY #6. Travel

Image
Hi, blog! Today I'd like to talk about a passion of mine...TRAVELING! Growing up my family didn't make many trips because we struggled financially. So, for a long time, I never understood the beauty and importance of travel. My dad worked very hard and put in a lot of effort. So much so that he eventually worked his way very high up. We are now fortunate enough to travel. It is my dad's favorite thing. I'm lucky enough that he chooses to bring me with him. The first place I ever went out of the country to was Costa Rica. Costa Rica is a very tropical place and has amazing food. It is a great place if you are the type of person who loves outdoor adventures! While I was there, I went ziplining, repelling, hiking, and swimming. I also went on boat tours and went to the hot springs. Another thing you must do when visiting Costa Rica is to take a few nature tours. On nature tours, I recommend getting a guide. If you go without a guide, it is hard to see the amazing wildlife

ENTRY #5. Mayhem

In this blog, I'm discussing the popular Allstate commercial,  Beauty Blogger | Allstate Mayhem - YouTube . All advertisements intend to sell or promote. Beyond the sale and promotion of Allstate Insurance, the commercial advocates the prevention of accidents. The ad targets homeowners. It wants the audience to connect to those little incidents, like keeping a flat iron on. The man known as "Mayhem" tries to convey the worst-case scenarios for accidents. Allstate wants its audience to have mayhem-free coverage. The context behind this commercial is that teens tend to make mistakes. They tend to worry more about likes and appearances than whether or not it's safe to leave the hot flat iron on a towel. This advertisement is very amusing for that particular reason. As a society, we tend to make mistakes. With the huge reliance teens have on appearance and technology, the situation is light-heartedly relatable. The design of the advertisement is to remind the audience of

ENTRY #4. The difference of treatment between children

Image
Most people who have grown up with siblings know there can be an unequal form of treatment between each child and parent. More specifically, some children get treated better than others. A concept coined for this particular instance is called choosing "favorites." Many parents will swear they don't have favorites, but I think that is a total lie. Humans are emotional people. We all have that favorite friend, pet, coworker, etc. Even if we say we love each equally. The biggest issue with this is that children can be treated very unfairly by their parents because of favoritism. They won't dare punish or inconvenience one or more of their children, so usually, it can fall back on the least favorite or the easily punishable one. It can also be bad because certain children can be given more opportunities and rewards compared to the other children in the family. This leads to a lot of children growing up feeling depressed, unaccepted, and unloved. Most parents don't rea
