ENTRY #10. The Finish Line

Hi everyone! I hope you all are doing well and surviving the end of the semester. For my last blog post, I'd like to wish you all luck.

I'd also like to stress the importance of taking care of yourself. I know that for me I can get very stressed, and my depression worsens when things come to a close. It is hard preparing for finals and final projects. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to drown in work and assignments.

One thing that I've had to learn is that school is not more important than some things. For example, if you are struggling mentally, please take time to take care of yourself. Mental well-being is far more important than a 20-point assignment.

I also want to emphasize the importance of asking for help. Don't be afraid to talk to your family, friends, and teachers about what is going on. They are supposed to be there to support you. Asking for help is better than toughing it alone. I recently had 2 major incidents happen that took up a lot of my time. I was in a car accident and had to report a teacher all on the same day. I was making phone call after phone call, and I was so emotionally drained. I remember clearly telling my mom, "I don't have time to report the incident right now, I have bio homework due." It was then that I realized I had put my bio homework over solving an issue that could affect my safety in class. I stopped doing my homework and finished my calls with the school and the ones about the car accident. I went to bio class that night and I told my teacher what happened and that I was unable to finish my assignments. She was so understanding. I know not everyone is an understanding person, but it never hurts to try and ask for help, even from strict teachers. I never expected my bio teacher to be the type of person to help me out, but she did. I encourage you all to seek help if you need it. Wouldn't you rather try to negotiate an extension than immediately accept a 50 pt. loss? I know I would.

Take things easy. Remember that life happens and it's okay if things don't go perfectly planned. Life isn't perfect and neither are we! It's time that we ease up on ourselves!
